Management

Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra is a registered charity, and is financed solely by members’ subscriptions, and income from concert tickets, donations and fund raising. The orchestra is governed by a constitution, and run by an executive committee of parents (trustees) and friends, elected at the Annual General Meeting. The committee also includes the Musical Director and elected player representatives.

Medical

The appointed Medical Officer is Elena Woods, RGN.

Health & Welfare of members:

Parents, or players if aged 16 or over, have prime responsibility for their child’s/their own health and should provide SYO with information about any medical condition, or any circumstances that may affect the needs of the player/member. This is achieved by completing an SYO Medical Form at the beginning of every year. A second form is to be completed prior to the summer tour for those attending.

Information given will be kept confidential, however in some circumstances it may be released to the Musical Director and some members of the Committee, but not without prior discussion with parents/member.

It is essential that SYO is kept informed of any changes of medical conditions and contact telephone numbers.

If there are any concerns regarding the health or welfare of a member, please feel free to discuss them with the SYO Medical Officer (currently Elena Woods RGN)

All members of the Committee have undertaken a CRB check.

Full SYO Medical & Child protection policies are available upon request.

Child Protection

The Chairman of Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra has appointed Anne Morris as Child Protection Officer.

The SYO Committee fully recognizes the moral and legal responsibility it has to provide a duty of care for young people and offer them the protection from abuse and exploitation that every young person should have.

The Committee maintains child protection and anti-bullying policies, and all Committee members and employees undergo Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.

Chaperones

The Committee is determined to ensure that their employees and volunteers adopt best practice to safeguard and protect young people from abuse and themselves against false allegations. We run a chaperone system for rehearsals and sectionals, with invaluable support from parents.
