A year in the life of the Orchestra
- SYO has three 9 week terms which wherever possible we try to coincide with local school holidays and half terms.
- Autumn Term - September to December.
- Spring Term - January to March.
- Summer Term - April to July
- At the end of each term there is a concert involving both the Main Orchestra and the Training Orchestra.
- One of the three concerts is sometimes held at our home venue in St. Paul’s Church, Wimbledon.
- The remaining concerts are held at prestigious London Concert venues, for example, Hammersmith Town Hall, the Royal Academy of Music, and Cadogan Hall.
- Each term sectional rehearsals are held for the both Orchestras, giving them the opportunity to learn from other music professionals.
- We organize regular “Taster” days which allow interested potential members to experience the orchestra at first hand and then decide whether they would like to audition formally.
- Auditions are held at the beginning of each term and ad hoc auditions are possible dependent on the availability of the Musical Director.
- The challenges of finding sufficient time from the orchestra members to enter all the festivals and Proms from which Stoneleigh historically has enjoyed so much success cannot be overstated. We’re willing…. are the members able to cram in another commitment to their already frantically busy lives?
